How to password protect a PDF with AES-256
To password protect a PDF, open Protect PDF, choose a password and the permissions, and download the encrypted file. It opens only with that password, using AES-256 encryption.

Steps
- Open Protect PDF and add the document.
- Choose a strong password.
- Choose whether to stop printing, copying or changes.
- Download the encrypted PDF.
Choosing a password
A long passphrase of several ordinary words is stronger than a short password with symbols. Send the password by a different route from the file, such as a call or a message.
Protection is not redaction
Encryption keeps out people without the password. Anyone who has it sees everything. To remove text for good before sharing, use Redact PDF.
